What Do You Pray for Your Husband?

I’ll be honest…sometimes, I realize that it’s been a while since I’ve prayed a targeted prayer for my husband. You know, something more than “God bless him with favor at work” or, “Help him Lord to do what it takes to be healthy”.

Using Scripture in your prayers is not only wise, it’s strategic and powerful! I know the importance and effectiveness of praying God’s Word and yet there are times when I don’t do it. Can you relate?

How often do you find yourself praying for your husband? When you do, are you praying strategically and using God’s Word in your prayers?

I’d like to share one of the Word-based prayers I’ve prayed for my husband before. It’s based on Ephesians 3:16. Here it is from The Passion Translation:

And I pray that He would unveil within you the unlimited riches of His glory and favor until supernatural strength floods your innermost being with His divine might and explosive power.

See how much more powerful that is than my somewhat puny prayer of “God bless him with favor”? 🙂

Praying His Word assures me that God hears my prayer (see 1John 5:14-15). It helps me pray with confidence and boldness. I simply read Scripture to the Lord as part of my prayer time! It blesses me AND I know that I’m praying according to His will.

Here’s another scripture I’ve prayed for my husband (Zechariah 4:6 EXB):

I am the Lord All-Powerful. So don’t depend on your own power or strength, but on my Spirit.

This verse applies to a multitude of “issues” that I might feel led to pray about.

Do you pray Scripture? If so, what Scripture have you recently prayed for your husband? Please share it in the comments below.

Monday's Marinade Favor-Ps 5-12

Monday’s Marinade – Surrounded by His Favor

FAVOR, is:

“excessive kindness or unfair partiality; preferential treatment” (as defined by Dictionary.com).

It is unearned…there’s nothing you can do to get it. The Psalmist assures us that because of our righteousness, we are SURROUNDED by God’s kindness. Do you see it being exhibited in your life? Look for it. Expect it!

Here are a couple more scriptures about how you can enjoy God’s preferential treatment:

You have granted me life and favor, and Your care has preserved my spirit. ~Job 10:12

For whoever finds me (wisdom) finds life, and obtains favor from the LORD.~ Proverbs 8:35

Monday’s Marinade is a means of “soaking yourself” in the hope-filled Word of God at the beginning of your week. Start your week by meditating on scripture about God’s FAVOR. Repeatedly think about and quietly say it to yourself.  Marinate and season your week with hope and a confident expectation of good things happening!

SPEAK UP and Tell Hell NO!

Most people find it easy to say “Hell No”. It slips off the tongue without even thinking about it. But there’s a time when saying “Hell No” is not cursing/cussing. It’s the time when you need to get the minions of Hell off your back and repudiate their authority within your circumstances.

I’ve learned the importance of feeling comfortable/bold to tell someone, “No.” If I don’t say “No” to the things I don’t want or to the things that could unnecessarily consume a lot of my time and energy, I get frustrated, stressed, and regretful that I ever allowed the “thing” into my life. I’ve learned it’s okay to say, “No.” That one little word is a complete sentence— it does not require an explanation to follow it.

Learning to tell Hell “No” is crucially important. The best way to do so is by using the Word of God to frame your responses to the things Hell sends your way. Anything that Hell sends is of the Curse. Those things are not what God wants for us to experience. Jesus died to redeem us from the Curse so that we could have a life filled with God’s good and perfect gifts. This means that He freed believers from the punishments and dominion of the Mosaic Law (curse) at the price of his vicarious death. He suffered in our place. He satisfied the requirement of our eternal death so that we wouldn’t have to. Because of Him, we are free to live in the abundance of God’s grace. Grace is God’s favor; it’s His goodwill, blessing, and preferential treatment toward us.

Which category do you think infertility, sickness, disease, poverty, dysfunctional relationships, etc., would fall in— Grace or Curse?

grace or curse - tell hell no

How would you frame your response of “No” to those thoughts and circumstances that Hell sends your way? Jesus gave us the best examples of how to do it. His reply to Satan’s tactics always incorporated what God had spoken through His written words (Matthew 4:4-10). Jesus also gave instruction to not remain silent in the midst of trying times. He said that we are to speak to the mountain (Mark 11:23). The “mountain” is that thing that has raised its ugly head from the pit of Hell and is attempting to sabotage or block God’s good plan for our lives.

Speak up and tell Hell, “No!” Speak up using the Word of God and your praises to Him to silence the enemy and make him impotent in your life (Psalm 8:2).

After all, if you don’t do it, who will?

The Guest Room

I grew up in a home where there was no guest room. If anyone spent the night, they had to sleep on the sofa. Not a sofa bed, just a sofa. That didn’t make for comfortable accommodations so we didn’t have very many overnight guests!

Fast forward to the future. The date is May 30, 2014. On that day, I am not in the home where I grew up.  I am in the retreat home where I am hosting the iHope Fertility Retreat. There are enough bedrooms in this house so that there is an empty bedroom. But because a generous donor gave me a scholarship for a young woman, that empty room has become a guest room for an attendee.

Bedroom by Witthaya PhonsawatHave been thinking about coming to the iHope Fertility Retreat but finances were holding you back? I have a scholarship that you could possibly qualify for and use to pay your FULL registration fee! Someone who believes in the mission of the iHope Fertility Retreat handed me a check last night to cover the the cost of one person to attend. This was such a clear indication of God’s favor working. It was such an unexpected blessing!!! And yet, I must say that all along I was expecting God to make a way for the right people to be in the right place at the right time so that the right people could attend. In the Fall of 2013, I made Him my Retreat Attendance Officer  and I haven’t worried about who’s coming since then.

I expect that He will continue to provide in other ways, just as He has provided the guest room at the iHope Retreat.

If you’re interested in seeing if you qualify for this scholarship, please email me at Evangeline@EvangelineColbert.com and let me know why you’d like to be the one enjoying a stay in the guest room.

Will you be my guest?
