Focus Friday

Focus on the following scripture throughout the day. It’s God’s Word and it’s what He desires us to believe. Believe it is true for you because God’s Word is Truth. Speak this Word to yourself throughout the day. Personalize it by putting your name in it!

“This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.”

Psalm 91:2 [NLT]

  1. I’m attending a baby shower tomorrow for a cousin who is 7 years younger who because of health issues wasn’t sure she could have children. She has also not been sure she wanted to have children because of all the surgeries she had. I am so happy for her but still sad for me. I know that she did not take my blessings but I can’t help but feel a little jealous and sad. Any words of wisdom for me to think about while I’m there?

      1. Jeunnefille, I know this is hard…I experienced the same thing when my best friend would seemingly get pregnant just by looking at her husband. 🙂

First of all, I want to stress that God has not forgotten you. He loves you and is always mindful of you. If you have made Jesus your Savior, God says that He will never leave you (Hebrews 13:5). His presence is why the power of His grace is always available to work in your life. That’s something to be thankful for! I found that when I maintained an attitude of being grateful for the positive things in my life, it helped ease the pain during difficult times (like someone else’s baby shower). So tomorrow, keep your mind focused on the goodness of God and His very personal love for YOU (See Psalm 84:11).

Here’s an excerpt from my book, “A Seed of Hope: God’s Promises of Fertility” that might give you some insight on gratitude:

“I chose to have an attitude of gratitude even when I was still experiencing infertility. I chose to thank God for His goodness, for His dynamic healing power working in me, and for His unconditional love.
By saying “thank you”, you’re also telling yourself that you have taken possession of something. You are reminding yourself that you have received the gift and taken ownership of it. When you hear yourself say “thank you” over and over again with genuineness, you begin to build up your confidence. You’re building up your faith!
Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing…” Hearing yourself say to God, “Thank you for a healthy baby”, even in the midst of infertility, is a means of keeping yourself focused on Him and His solution to the problem. You are reinforcing within your mind that you are strengthened and receiving Life from Him.
Stay focused on God, the Giver of good gifts by giving Him thanks, right where you are.
Prayer for Today: Father God, I come to you today giving you thanks and praise for Your faithfulness in my life. Thank you that as I choose to receive Your Word, it works to give me abundant life and it strengthens my soul. Help me to keep my heart and mind focused on You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

I hope you’ll come back and let me know how things go this weekend. I’ll be praying for you.

        1. Thanks for your wonderful words of encouragement. I had a wonderful time at the baby shower thanking God for the blessing of my large and loving family. I said many prayers for the couple and the new baby to come. I was able to share in their joy and it meant something to me. My Aunt shared with me that my cousin really took my situation to heart when evaluating if she wanted to bear children or not. So, my experiences have helped someone and I know my trials have been used for some good! I spent the afternoon after I got home thanking God for a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery of a baby girl, and I visualized myself pregnant and later holding my baby and seeing her when she was a toddler as well. It felt wonderful. Joseph Prince had a message on my birthday a few month’s ago about calling forth what you want to see happen. I have been working on that. Lo and behold there are elements of your message that describe the very same thing!!! Thank you very much for your support and prayers. I will be reading your blog religiously!

          1. This is great news! I’m glad you genuinely enjoyed the shower and found freedom through gratitude. Joseph Prince is one of my favorite TV teachers too. He has opened my eyes to the fullness of Grace. I’m glad you see that in my writing.

Thanks for being open and honest here. I’m sure you’ve helped others to realize that hope and joy CAN be restored and sustained in the midst of infertility.
